Description de l'atelier.

Cet atelier se tiendra à Porto, au Portugal, le 8 septembre 2008, en même temps que le symposium WikiSym 2008 - http://www.wikisym.org/ws2008.

L'Internet est désormais véritablement un réseau international et multilingue. Les utilsateurs non-anglophones représentent maintenant les deux-tiers de ses utilisateurs. Pourtant, bien que des dizaines de langues soient maintenant utilisées simultanément sur ce réseau, les barrières linguistiques rendent difficile la collaboration et les connections entre communautés linguistiques.

Étant donné que le nombre croissant de projets et d'initiatives à travers le monde, et que de plus en plus de personnes travaillent quotidiennement dans un environnement multilingue, le "wiki way" - une philosophie et des outils qui favorisent, l'ouverture et la collaboration sur le Web - semble une une approche prometteuse pour permettre la collaboration entre membres de communautés linguistiques.

L'objectif de cet atelier est d'explorer comment les wikis et le "wiki way" pourraient avoir un impact, et être influencés par la collaboration multilingue. Il vise à réunir des personnes ayant un intérêt dans la collaboration multilingue, ainsi que des spécialistes tels que les traducteurs et terminologues et les auteurs qui espèrent trouver des moyens de rejoindre d'autres communautés linguistiques à travers leur travail.

Présentations éclair (~ 35 mins dépendamment du nombre d'articles)

• Ceux et celles dont l'article a été accepté (soit par le comité de lecture de WikiSym ou de BabelWiki) font une présentation éclair de 2 minutes.
• Nous serons très stricts quand à la limite de 2 minutes, alors assurez vous d'être suffisamment préparés pour rentrer à l'intérieur de ce temps. Le but d'une présentation éclair est de donner un aperçu de l'article, et d'inciter les gens à lire la version intégrale sur le site wiki. Ci-dessous, vous trouverez quelques ressources pour vous aider à préparer une présentation éclair (en anglais seulement, désolé).

Tour de table (~ 15 mins)

• Ceux et celles qui n'ont pas fait de présentation éclair auront la chance de décrire leurs intérêts particuliers (max 2 mins chacun).
• Quelqu'un s'occupe de prendre des notes sur le site wiki.
• Cette partie pourrait être sautée si nous manquons de temps. De toute façon, les gens auront l'opportunité de s'exprimer dans le cadre de laportion "CardStorming" de l'atelier.

CardStorming (~ 30 mins)

• Les participants reçoivent des PostIts jaunes, et ils commencent à écrire des thèmes, questions, défis, etc... pertinants au thème de l'atelier. Ils collent ces notes sur une affiche, en faisant attention à placer leur note le plus près possible d'autres notes qui s'y rapportent.
• Note: Les gens qui ont des démos à montrer peuvent afficher une note à cet effet. CEs démos seront présentées à la fin de la journée.
• Quand les participants commencent à manquer d'idées, ils commencent à réarranger les notes affichées de façon collaborative, afin de créer des grappes de notes.
• Quand les grappes deviennent relativement stables, elles sont nommées, et on leur assigne un endroit et une heure pour leur discussion.
  • S'il y a trop de grappes pour le temps que nous avons, on demande aux participants de voter sur les grappes qui les intéresse le plus.
• Quelqu'un est désigné pour consigner la liste de notes et de grappes sur le site wiki. La consignation peut se faire lors de la prochaine pause, mais un volontaire doit être trouvé dès maintenant.

Première session en petits groupes (~60 mins)

• Les participants vont chacun à l'endroit dédié à la discussion du thème qui les intéresse le plus pour cette plage horaire.
• Une discussion animée s'en suit (Note: 20 années d'expérience avec l'Open Space indique clairement que quand des gens forment des groupes autour des sujets qui les intéressent le plus, une discussion animée s'ensuit naturellement).
• Quelqu'un est nommé pour prendre des notes pour chaque groupe sur le site wiki.

• Ceux et celles qui ont q.q.chose à dire peuvent partager leurs intuitions, les choses importantes qu'ils ont entendu, ce qu'ils comptent faire suite à cet atelier, etc...

Observations finales (~ 15 mins)

• Les organisateurs de l'atelier présentent quelques observations finale, avant de clore l'atelier.
• Ils invitent les participants à collaborer en-ligne après l'atelier, afin de rédiger le Rapport de l'atelier BabelWiki08.

Workshop description

This workshop will be held in Porto, Portugal, in Sept 8th, 2008, during the Wikisym 2008 Symposium - http://www.wikisym.org/ws2008.

The Internet has by now become a truly global and multilingual community: non-English speakers presently account for two-thirds of Internet users. Yet, while dozens of languages are being used simultaneously on the same network, the language barriers make it difficult for connection and collaboration to happen across languages.

Recognizing that global projects and initiatives are growing in number, and that more and more people are working daily in multilingual environments, it appears that the "wiki way" - a philosophy of tool-building that creates open, collaborative Web-based environments - might show promise in realizing the potential of collaboration among members of different language communities.

The goal of this workshop is to explore how wikis and the wiki way might impact, and be influenced by, multilingual collaboration and language work. It aims to bring together people with an interest in multilingual collaboration, as well as specialists such as translators and terminologists, and authors who hope to find ways for their work to reach other language communities.

Welcome (~ 10 mins)

• Alain Désilets and Xavier de Pedro officially open the workshop, on behalf of the workshop chair: Sébastien Paquet.

Lightning talks (~ 35 mins depending on the number of papers)

• The people whose position paper or extended paper was accepted (either by the WikiSym program committee or the workshop commitee) are invited to present it as a 2-minute lightning talk.
• We will be very strict about the 2-minute time limit, so please make sure you are prepared well enough to be able to stick to that time. The purpose of the lightning talk is to give a very brief idea of what the paper is about, and incite people to read it from the wiki site. Below are pages to help you prepare for a lightning talk.

Roundtable (~ 15 mins)

• People who did not do a lightning talk get a chance to express their particular interest (2 mins each, max).
• Someone is appointed to take notes on the wiki site.
• This part can be skipped if we run out of time in the first section. People will have lots of opportunities to express their interests during the CardStorming stage.

CardStorming (~ 30 mins)

• Attendees are then handed sticky note pads and invited to write down themes, challenges, opportunities, etc.... relevant to the theme of collaborative wiki-style cross-lingual communication. They post them onto a blank poster, trying to post similar themes near each other.
• Note: People can post demos that they want to do, but those will be done at the end of the day.
• When attendees run out of ideas, they collaboratively start moving the yellow stickies around to create clusters of issues.
• When the clustering has become somewhat stable, clusters are labeled, and assigned particular times and locations.
  • If there are more clusters than can be discussed in the available time, ask people to vote by posting stickers on the ones they like most.
• Someone is appointed to write down the list of clusters and the issues they contain, in the wiki site. The writing down can be done later during the break, but a volunteer should be found right then.

First break out discussion (~60 mins)

• Participants each move to the location corresponding to the cluster they are most interested in for this first breakout session.
• Lively discussion ensues (Note: 20 years of experience with Open Space teaches us that when people form groups centered around the sub-topic they are most interested in, lively discussion naturally follows).
• Someone is appointed to take notes for that group on the wiki site.

Second break out discussion (~60 mins)

• Participants each move to the location corresponding to the cluster they are most interested in for this second breakout session.
