Invitation on penaoz.org

Hi, I registered here a while ago, being both a translator and a TW user. Unfortunately, I could not participate much, for the simple reason that, my job keeping me on the desktop typing so intensively, I absolutely needed to spend my free time away from computers and linguistics.

Anyway, now I have an opportunity for you.

Many translators are unsatisfied with their present forum (proz.com), and are asking me to create another forum, more confidential, but of course with i18n.

At the same time, I want to provide them with the wiki tool, because we are tired of the forum-only solutions for technical questions, always having to reply to the same technical questions, never accumulating knowledge in wiki pages.

At the same time, many are curious of the possibilities of opensource translation tools. The industry standard Trados costs way too much and is of arguable quality standard.

So I thought I could make you meet them, and them meet you.

There will be a place for them to talk of whatever translators want to talk among themselves, a place for discussing wiki pages, and a place for them to talk to you.

Of course, on penaoz.org you will have the possibility to experiment whatever feature you deem interesting, and discuss the reactions of those professional of translation.

If you are interested, send me an e-mail at arnaudherve at gmail dot com. It will be a closed site, for professionals, on invitation only. Things are going to start consistently in September.

Why English only / Pourquoi en anglais seulement ?

To my English friends. I think what goes on here is absurd, we are discussing wiki translation, between people who speak various languages, but all in English.

Recently, I had written contacts with someone who speaks Spanish, he wrote Spanish to me, and I wrote French to him, that was really the best way to do things.

Should not the notorious "eating our own dog food" also apply to the language? We say there is no master language, but we do everything in English.

Project Proposal for GSOC 2009 related to Cross Language Information Retrieval

Hello,

I am Akshi Gupta and I have a project proposal on which I would like to work under GSOC 2009 program.Idea is as follows-

A document D1 is there in Language L1. User is familiar only with language L2. He wants other documents in language L2 which are related to document D1. The search would provide all the documents which are related to document D1 in language L2. This would exempt the user from the toil of analyzing the whole document himself, finding important points in it and then searching the related documents in language L2 using Cross Language Information Retrieval techniques. User would require to specify language L2 only in which he requires other documents.
I have done many mini projects on information retrieval before. I have devised some implementation strategies also which I can discuss if anyone is interested in this. Please have a look and let me know your views.

Thank you.

New DAP wiki translation website

Hullo all,
we launched a new, DokuWiki based, translation site for __DAP__ (Download Accelerator Plus).

It's websites like __wiki-translations__ that made us realize wiki might be a viable option for DAP translations.
We were hoping to get as much feedback and suggestions on the new DAP translation wiki ([http://wiki.speedbit.com|wiki.speedbit.com])

We'd love to hear from you, my email is ''davidi _AT_ speedbit _DOT_ com''
(or just reply here in the forum)

cheers, :)
